We couldn’t be prouder of the collaboration between Dignity Health Central Coast and the local university here in San Luis Obispo, California Polytechnic State University. Most recently Dignity Health partnered with Cal Poly to fund a dietetic internship exchange. This exchange allowed for two Cal Poly students to travel to Malawi, Africa to immerse themselves in dietetic studies at Ligonwe University, while two students from Ligonwe University came to San Luis Obispo to study at Cal Poly.
Felistace Mtande and Limbikira Wasambo, both from Malawi spent three weeks in San Luis Obispo visiting French Hospital and our sister location, Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria. During their time on the Central Coast they experienced first-hand clinical nutrition and food service rotations. In addition, the students participated in community nutrition at the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County.
We are humbled by Mtande and Wasambo who are among the first from their country to study dietetics. Both recently completed a postgraduate degree program in clinical nutrition and are now registered dietitians in Malawi.
